All Lit Up - Poems

From MAM by Doreen Neely

`Would she? Did she dare? Why Not?’
With a chuckle she went into the passage where the families’ coats hung on a row of hooks and found hers. Jamming a hat on her head and stabbing it with a hatpin, she reached up to the mantelpiece and took down the old brass teacaddy which held the rent. Hesitating, guiltily for a moment, she took out a shilling and slamming the door behind her, headed for the `Jug & Bottle’.
