Leslie Norris Memorial Evening

Academi is marking the passing of poet, short story writer and long term member Leslie Norris with a memorial evening celebrating his life and work. It will be held on Thursday 23 November at the Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay.
Noted as, ’…one of the most important Welsh writers of the post war period’ in The New Companion to the Literature of Wales, Merthyr born Leslie Norris started writing in the 1940’s, though only came to prominence as a frequent contributor to Poetry Wales in the late 1960’s.
Leslie’s volumes of poetry include Tongue of Beauty (1941), The Loud Winter (1967), Selected Poems (1986), Sequences (1988) to name only a few. He published two volumes of short stories, Sliding (1978) and The Girl from Cardigan (1988). His Collected Poems and Collected Stories were published in 1996.
This years Gwyn Jones Lecture on the subject of Leslie Norris will be read by Patrick McGuiness at the event. There will be additional readings and comments from M. Wynn Thomas, James A. Davies, Meic Stephens and Matthew Jarvis.
