Centenary Lecture Series
Myths, Memories and Futures
The National Library and National Museum in the Story of Wales
Established as a conscious nation–building statement at the peak of the Edwardian period of prosperity based on Wales’s mineral wealth, The National Museum Wales and the The National Library of Wales both celebrate their centenary in 2007.
This major series of free public lectures, organised by the Institute of Welsh Affairs and hosted by the two institutions, will look at the way myths, memories and futures inter mingle in their story and at their future role in developing ideas about the national identity of Wales in the 21st century.
Beginning in January 2006, the lectures will be brought together in a book to be launched at the opening of a major international conference in Cardiff in March 2007.
