Arthur Smith Tribute Evening

Wednesday 28 March 2007, 7:30pm,
Dylan Thomas Centre, Free Entry.
March 28 2007 would have been Arthur’s 80th birthday and therefore is an apt evening to celebrate his life and work. The evening will be introduced by Phil Carradice with short readings and tributes from several writers including , Peter Finch, Alan Perry, Raymond Humphreys, Robert Nisbet, Joyce James, Mike Jenkins, Carole Ann Smith, Chris Williams, Dennis Lewis and Herbert Williams.
Best known as the editor of Cambrensis magazine since its beginning in 1987, Arthur Smith opened the door to many new writers. But after more than eighteen years, 67 issues and more than 800 short story contributions, he was forced through ill–health to cease publication of the magazine after the last issue in July 2006. It was very much his personal vision of the pre-eminence of short fiction manifest in print form. Indeed, since the beginning in 1987, the magazine truly was “short story Wales”, as its sub-title proclaimed.
