Literary Laugharne

31 March – 1 April 2007
Laugharne, South Wales

We’d like to make a suggestion…

Have a Laugharne Weekend. A weekend of writers, readers, boozers, actors, smokers, poets and players. A weekend where you can see legendary figures from the worlds of post punk and rugby*, where you can see Wales best-loved film (and no, it isn’t Under Milk Wood with Richard Burton**) recreated by its original cast before your very eyes, where you can share your last legal indoor fag with Wales’ best loved drug smuggler (and yes it is Howard Marks, who else would it be?). A weekend where you can see a whole range of the finest writers from the Celtic fringes rubbing shoulders with psychedelic rockers, train robbers and Lily Allen’s dad.

A Laugharne Weekend - a lost weekend in the strangest town in Wales, if not the known universe.

C’mon what could possibly go wrong?

* Peter Hook and JPR Williams.
** It’s Twin Town, innit.

The festival provides a whole host of literature from Wales. Kicking off the festival on Saturday 31 March are two former Wales Book of the Year winners, Niall Griffiths and Owen Sheers. Author Rachel Trezise will be reading and talking to Lynsey Hanley while on Sunday Tessa Hadley will be taking to the stage with novelist Des Barry.
