Bring a little bit of Europe into your weekend with some literature from Catalonia.

Lost in Translation? Welsh and Catalan Translation Workshop - Glyn Jones Centre, Wales Millennium Centre - 9.30 am - £4 / 3

The day will begin at 9.30am, with a translation workshop: Two poems - Welsh to Catalan, Catalan to Welsh. Will they succeed? Poets from both countries will try to make sure of that. Any aspiring translators are welcome to join in this cultural exchange and contribute to poetry in the making. This workshop will be in Catalan and Welsh.

Parallel Voices / Veus Paral-leles - Glanfa, Wales Millennium Centre - 2.30 pm – Free Entry 

After lunch there will be a chance to hear the translated poems performed on stage. Following the success enjoyed by Welsh poets visiting Barcelona in 2005, we bring the second stage of the project here to you in Cardiff. Witness a feast of Welsh and Catalan poetry in your back garden. Representing Catalonia are poets Albert Mestres, Francesc Parcerisas and Júlia Zabala and for Wales Alan Llwyd and John Fitzgerald.

Wine will be served on arrival. Catalan wine of course.

Jordi Coca is one of Catalonia’s leading fictional voices. His novel, Under the Dust (Parthian 2007) has become one of the most read novels in recent Catalan literature. Aneurin Gareth Thomas is a Welshman who lived in Spain for fifteen years working as a teacher, translator and writer, but has now returned home to publish his first novel, Luggage from Elsewhere (Parthian 2007). Jordi and Aneurin will be interviewed by writer, editor and critic Dr. Montserrat Lunati.

So if you’re fed up with drink on St.Patricks day, and can’t eat another bite of haggis on Burns Night, try some literature on La Diada de Sant Jordi.
