Academi has announced the titles of the Wales Book of the Year Short List of three books in each language:
Christine Evans, Growth Rings (Seren)
Lloyd Jones, Mr Cassini (Seren)
Jim Perrin, The Climbing Essays (The In Pinn)
The authors on the Welsh–language Short List are T. Robin Chapman, Gwen Pritchard Jones and Llwyd Owen.
The Wales Book of the Year 2007 prizes are awarded to the best book in English and the best book in Welsh in the fields of creative writing and literary criticism. The winners will each receive £10,000 and the four runners-up will receive £1,000 each at a glittering award ceremony held in the Hilton Hotel, Cardiff on Monday evening 9 July 2007.
"Every single work on the Long List was already a winner. Whereas books could be hurled joyously on the reject pile when ploughing through a hundred or more of assorted quality, it was painful to put any of the final ten to one side," said Carolyn Hitt, Chair of the English-language panel of judges, after she was faced with the task of choosing the Wales Book of the Year Short List.
However, the judges will now have to start scratching their heads once again and decide which book will be awarded the title, ’Wales Book of the Year 2007’ at the glittering ceremony in July.
The evening will be introduced by BBC presenter, Rhun ap Iorwerth, with Professor Dai Smith, and music by the Paul Jones Jazz Quartet.
Tickets cost £40, but we are offering Academi Members a special price of £35 per head (including a glass of champagne or soft drink on arrival, three course meal and coffee) or you can book a table of 10 at a discounted rate of £350 per table.
In the past, tickets for this ceremony have been in demand, so book your tickets now to avoid disappointment.
