2007 John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry

alt

The 2007 John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry returns this autumn with a fantastic first prize of £500 on offer. The competition is open to all poets born in or currently living in Wales. Poets are invited to join us at one of four heats taking place throughout Wales in the hope of getting one of those all important places in the Grand Final.

For many, poetry is as much speaking as it is writing. This is your chance to stand up and make your voice heard in the search for the best live poet in Wales.

Academi has been holding events in tribute to John Tripp, one of our finest poetry performers, since 1990. The competition is open to all, beginners and established poets alike. This is your chance to impress the judges with your scintillating stanzas, vivacious verse and powerful performance.

Heats will be held as follows:

Tuesday 9 October, 7.30 pm – The Gate Arts Centre, Cardiff

Thursday 18 October, 7.30 pm – Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea

Thursday 25 October, 7.30 pm – Changing Rooms Restaurant, Wrexham Football Club

Thursday 1 November, 7.30 pm – Castle Hotel, Merthyr Tydfil

The Final:
