Absinthe – New European Writing

The new issue of the American-based literature journal that specialises in publishing work in translation has just appeared. Issue 8 edited by Dwayne D Hayes out of Farmington Hills, Michigan includes a wide range of poetry and prose from places as diverse as Albania, France, East Berlin, Slovenia and Romania. Moikom Zeqo has the shape of blood in his timeless pipe. Bogdan Suceava’s grandfather goes back to French. Julia Frank’s crumb cake arrives from Café Richter on Hindemithplatz. There are reviews, interviews and reproductions of Kirsten Pieroth’s Postcards from Berlin.
There are also handsome contributions from Grahame Davies and Gwyn Thomas. The Welsh National poet contributes a poem on the fight of the black people of America for equal rights. Grahame Davies contributes poetry on the Capital bookshop in Cardiff and a prose piece titled Meinwen.
