At Arm’s Length Launch
Geraint Talfan Davies in conversation with Patrick Hannan

Glanfa, Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff
Tuesday 19 February, 7.00pm
At Arm’s Length by Geraint Talfan Davies is part memoir, part commentary. He presents a unique insight into battles over arts funding, the centralisation of British media and the impact of devolution on culture and civil society.
Geraint Talfan Davies has been at the centre of Welsh cultural life for more than thirty years. Having held many senior positions in the media and the arts he brings an insider’s knowledge to bear in a graphic account of the decline of regional newspapers, the collapse of ITV’s regional mission, the London-centric nature of media and a threat to the independence of the arts.
He also explores – with insight and humour - some of his personal and professional passions: the development of civil society to face the challenge of devolution, the relationship between Wales and its capital city, architecture and planning, the future of journalism, and the role of culture ministers.
Geraint Talfan Davies was a senior media executive in newspapers, ITV and the BBC, before becoming the embattled chairman of the Arts Council of Wales. He is currently chairman of Welsh National Opera and Wales’s leading independent think tank, the Institute of Welsh Affairs.
