A new anthology from Hafan Books on behalf of Welsh refugee charities is due to be launched on Thursday 20 March, 2008.
Edited by Jeni Williams and Latéfa Guémar, Fragments from the Dark: Women Writing Home and Self in Wales (Hafan, 2008) includes poems, testimonies & fiction from women who are either at home in Wales or struggling to make a new home here. The anthology comprises new work from established names such as Stevie Davies, Emily Hinshelwood, Gwyneth Lewis, Janet Dubé, Jo Mazelis, Rhian Saadat, Trezza Azzopardi, as well as contributions from previously unpublished women who are seeking refuge in Wales. It explores displacement issues of violence, shock and loss.
The launch will be held at the Dylan Thomas Centre Swansea from 7pm - 10ish. It will feature readings, speeches, separate organised fun for kids, a buffet provided by community cooks and live music. Entry is free but a donation is requested. The event is being organised by Swansea Bay Asylum Seekers Support Group with the support of Oxfam Cymru and the Communities First Trust Fund, and a publishing grant from the Welsh Books Council.
The book normally retails at £6.99 but will be on sale for £5 at the launch, and free to those who have claimed asylum.
