Academi Writers Retreat:
A Sense of Place

Friday 6 - Sunday 8 November 2009
Cilwych Farm Cottages, Llangynidr, Powys
An opportunity for writers to relax, write, think and talk their way through a long slow autumn weekend. Above all there will be time.
This year Christopher Meredith, poet, novelist and translator, will lead the course which will take “A Sense of Place” as its broad theme. He is the author of three novels and three collections of poetry as well as having edited and translated books and is a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Glamorgan. Chris will lead a writing workshop on the Saturday morning and be available to talk to course members individually during Saturday afternoon. Delegates will be welcome to write poetry or prose. There will be open readings on Friday evening and Saturday evening with a guest reading by Christopher Meredith on Saturday night.
We have booked Cilwych Farm Cottages for this year’s retreat; a complex of self-contained cottages but with a central dining area and meeting spaces. The cottages each have their own sitting room. Llangynidr village is a walkable distance and has a shop and a pub and a long narrow elegant bridge across the river Usk. The Monmouthsire and Brecon Canal passes through a set of five locks and Llangynidr mountain rises steeply up behind the village. A beautiful setting.
Fee: £125 for a single room; £95 (concessions £85) for a shared room
Fee includes 2 nights accommodation in Cilwych Farm Cottages with supper on Friday night, three meals on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Accommodation is in single or twin rooms and places are limited to 17 course members.
Book now by cheque (payable to Academi) or by credit card on 029 2047 2266. A £25.00 deposit is required to secure the booking.
