By Breath and By Foot
Following a successful programme of Literary Bus Tours in 2009, funded by an ACW Beacon Company Award, Academi have been approached by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority to collaborate on walking tours with a literary theme in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
As a pilot project, we are pleased to confirm that the first walk will take place to coincide with Hay Festival in May 2010. Writer Ric Hool will lead the first walk, titled By Breath and By Foot. The walk will be around 5.5 miles long and will be based around Hay Bluff. Ric will discuss walking as an inroad into writing by talking about his own work and that of Rebecca Solnitt, Gary Snyder and others. He will be reading extracts at various points in the walk and will also be introducing the influences of breathing, musicality of step on various surfaces, and the psychological impact of landscape as a tool for writing. Two trained National Park wardens will accompany the walk.
The exact dates and details are being confirmed at the moment and we will publish the details in the Academi newsletter and on the website as soon as they are available. Details will also be included in the official brochure of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority.
