Prizes are awarded for the best books published during the previous calendar year. This year, Academi is responsible for awarding books first published during 2009.

The 2010 Wales Book of the Year Short List of three English-language books and three Welsh-language books will be revealed at the Guardian Hay Festival in May 2010.
The 2010 Wales Book of the Year will culminate in a glittering award ceremony in Cardiff in June 2010, where the two winners will be awarded a cheque of £10,000 each and the four runners-up will receive £1,000 each.
