CONDRY, William (Moreton) (1918–98) Naturalist and author
Although born in Birmingham, William Condry lived most of his adult life in Wales, working as warden of a wild bird reserve at Ynys-hir (Ysgubor-y-coed). His many books on natural history include Snowdonia National Park (1966), Exploring Wales (1970), The World of a Mountain (1977) and The Natural History of Wales (1981). His ‘Country Diary’ column in the Guardian was collected in A Welsh Country Diary (1993); his autobiography, Wildlife, My Life, appeared in 1995 and Welsh Country Essays in 1996.
