GALLIE, Menna (1920–90) Novelist
Ystradgynlais-born Menna Gallie wrote five novels: Strike for a Kingdom (1959), which deals with the General Strike of 1926, Man’s Desiring (1960), The Small Mine (1962), Travels with a Duchess (1968) and You’re Welcome to Ulster! (1970). Manifest in them all is a talent for interweaving the serious and the humorous. She also translated Caradog Prichard’s novel Un Nos Ola Leuad under the title Full Moon (1973).
