A poet and woodcarver, John Davies was raised in Cymmer Afan then Port Talbot and educated at University College, Aberystwyth. He has taught in Michigan and Washington, and during 1987/88 was visiting Professor of Poetry at Brigham Young University, Utah. He has published six collections of poetry, one of which was the joint winner of the 1986 Alice Hunt Bartlett Prize.
