Literary Critic and University Professor. Born in Pontyberem, and educated in the University of Oxford. Formerly Senior Lecturer, St. Anne’s College, Oxford; Director of the Department of Continuing Education, University of Wales, Aberystwyth (1976–1997); holder of a personal chair in English Literature of the University of Wales; currently Visiting Professor of English, University of Rio Grande, Ohio.
