Poet. Born St. Louis, Missouri. Both maternal grandparents born in Wales. Educated Northwestern University, Chicago and Washington University, St. Louis. Has been naval officer, corporation president, journalist, saloon owner and university lecturer in America. Currently director of study programme for American students at Trinity College, Carmarthen, and owner of Welsh–American pub in St. Louis. Poems in literary magazines and anthologies in both US and Great Britain. Has won prizes in major poetry competitions in both the US and Britain, most recently in British National Competition 1989 and Cardiff International Competition, 1990. A former director of
staff for the MA course in Creative Writing at Trinity College, Carmarthen.

1. Read and discuss own poetry, especially in regard to the problem of being an American whose subject matter is Wales and/or Welsh-American experience. In other words, ’Yanklo-Welsh’ poetry.
2. Discuss American literature in general, and the essential ways in which it differs from English literature

AGE-RANGE: 16-18 and adults. AVAILABILTY: Generally in Wales late September through October, February and March; late May through June.
