Born in England and educated at Sussex University, Gaye has twenty years’ experience living and working in Turkey and Switzerland. Widely translated, her first book Against the Storm (Puffin, 1991) was shortlisted for the Whitbread Award and was runner–up for the Guardian Children’s Book Award, Smarties and Angus awards. She was winner of the Janusz Korczak Prize, 1994, in USA. The Frozen Waterfall (Faber Children’s Books, 1993) was shortlisted for the Guardian and the Smarties Awards and won the Writer’s Guild Children’s Fiction Award. Gaye now lives with her husband on the Pembrokeshire coast. She has four grown–up children.
