Memoirist and fiction writer. Born in Vinh Long, South Vietnam, educated at Bennington College, Brown University USA. Associate Lecturer in Creative Writing, Cardiff University. His memoir entitled South Wind Changing and published in 1994, was selected the best book of the year by Time magazine and nominated for the US National Book Award. Featured by Terry Gross on the US national public radio Fresh Air programme. He is a recipient of awards from the US National Endowment for the Arts and Vermont Council, receiving Arts Fellowships for creative non–fiction and fiction.
