Poet, critic, local historian. Born in London to a Welsh father, Sally was educated at University College of North Wales, Bangor. She moved to Port Talbot in 1967, where she worked as a freelance lecturer, writer and publisher. Her first book of poems, Turning Away: Collected Poems 1952–1968 (Gomer, 1969), won the Welsh Arts Council Prize in 1969. Sally has published four collections of poetry, critical studies, short stories, folk tales for children, local history, bibliographies of Anglo–Welsh literature. Sally set up Alun Books with her husband Alwyn in the late 1970s.
