Storyteller and writer, Mary grew up in Fishguard and St David’s. She completed a year on VSO in Kenya and read English at Girton College Cambridge. From 1969, Mary worked as a researcher and journalist until the early 1980s when she developed as an oral storyteller, working with adults and children in performance, workshop and educational situations. Mary now also lectures and writes on storytelling and the oral tradition. In 1990, she devised a Channel 4 TV series, By Word of Mouth: The Revival of Storytelling. Mary has published various collections of stories for children. She is a former chair of the Society of Storytelling and now edits the society’s publications.
