Born in Kent and educated at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Julie worked as a primary teacher in Kent and south London before moving to Wales in 1978. She is a poet, short–story writer and children’s novelist, as well as an adjunct tutor in creative writing at Trinity College, Carmarthen. Her short stories for children have been broadcast by BBC Radio Wales and poems have appeared in various magazines, including Poetry Wales and New Welsh Review. Her adult short stories have appeared in anthologies. She was awarded a Welsh Arts Council bursary in 1993.
