Mike SharpePoet. Born in Alfreton, Derbyshire into a mining community in 1933. Mike was educated at Swanwick Hall Grammar School and Reading University where he researched the early novels of D. H. Lawrence for his MA. He was Head of the English Department in St. Bartholomew’s School, Newbury until 1988. Mike then moved to Pembrokeshire and began writing poetry. He has had critical work on D. H. Lawrence published in Essays in Criticism, various short stories broadcast on Radio 4 and has written several verse–dramas and documentary plays for BBC schools’ radio. Mike has most recently written a children’s story about child labour in Victorian mines. It is due to be published by Mill Publishing in 2007. Mike is a Member of Academi.
