Iris Roderick ThomasEducated at Merthyr Intermediate School, upon achieving Central Welsh Board Certificate, Iris was accepted into Swansea College. She opted out in favour of a nursing career at City General Hospital, Gloucester. Iris was transferred at a later date to St Tydfil’s Hospital, Merthyr and was awarded a Manager’s Diploma by Avon Cosmetics United Kingdom in 1965. Prior to her retirement in 1990, she was awarded the Circle of Excellence, the highest honour awarded to an Avon Cosmetics Zone Sales Manager. Her short stories and poems have appeared in various journals and she has appeared on both television and radio. Iris has received awards from the Guild of Romantic Writers and English Explorer Magazine. She enjoyed a residency in 1995 at Heolgerrig School and appeared in ’All Our Lives’ and ’Common Ground’, and on video talking about how she came to write. Iris loves reading at Residential Homes and Sheltered Accommodation.
