WILLIAMS, CHARLOTTE
Prose writer. The daughter of a Welsh–speaking mother and a Guyanese father, she was brought up in north Wales, later travelling to Africa and the Caribbean. Her autobiography, Sugar and Slate (Planet, 2002), winner of the English section of the 2003 Wales Book of the Year, details this physical and spiritual journey. Charlotte is Professor of Social Justice and Head of the School of Criminology, Education and Sociology at Keele University. She was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours List 2007 for services to ethnic minority groups and to equal opportunities in Wales.
