Poet, novelist, short story writer, dramatist. Born in Aberystwyth. First collection of poetry published 1965. Journalist, then BBC producer, before becoming full-time writer in 1979. Poems, short stories, plays broadcast by BBC, HTV and Thames Television. Contributor to New Welsh Review, Planet, Cambrensis, Western Mail, The Transatlantic Review, Aquarius, Decal, Iota and other journals. Co-founder of Roundyhouse Poetry Magazine. Awards include Hawthornden Poetry Fellowship 1992. Adjudicated Rhys Davies Short Story Competition 1998. Herbert is a Fellow of Academi. Read A Sample Poem
