Academic, cultural historian, literary critic. Professor Hazel Walford Davies is a graduate in English of the University of Wales, Cardiff, and an M.A. and Ph.D. of the University of Wales. She has held posts in both the English a Department and the Drama Department at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth (subsequently Senior Lecturer), at Manchester College, Oxford, and at the University of Glamorgan (Professor). She has, since 1980, held visiting professorships in Literature and Theatre at various American universities.
She has recently published in the new Dictionary of National Biography and has an essay on the performance history of Saunders Lewis’s Blodeuwedd in the new Cambridge History of Twentieth–Century Theatre. A forthcoming volume (University of Wales Press, 2008) is an edited collection of specially–commissioned critical essays on the Welsh-language National Theatre movement. Her own contributions to the volume trace the importance of the movement to the wider literary and cultural life of Wales. Hazel is a Board member of Academi.
