When they reach Elsinore castle, they are given a warm welcome but the murder of Rolfe Harling, who brokered the wedding, changes the whole atmosphere of the place. Danger threatens from all sides, not least from England itself where the father of a young man who also died seeks revenge and sends two assassins after the troupe. They are soon embroiled in a web of political intrigue and betrayal. The Owls of Gloucester (Headline, 2000)
The ordered calm of Gloucester Abbey is shattered by the murder of one of its monks. The Abbot, ill-equipped to deal with such a heinous crime, is stunned by the Sheriff’s belief that one of the monks is guilty. It is by this confusion that two Domesday Comminisioners are welcomed into the town. Murder at the abbey, intrigue at the castle, domestic strife and the imminent arrival of William the Conqueror make this one of the most difficult cases for Ralph Delchard and Gervase Bret.
