REES–JONES, DERYN
Poet. Born in Liverpool in 1968. Deryn’s family has long–standing connections with North Wales where she spent a great deal of time as a child before reading English at University of Wales, Bangor. The recipient of an Eric Gregory Award in 1993, her first collection was published by Seren. Deryn did postgraduate research in London before returning to Liverpool where she lectures in English Literature at the University of Liverpool. The Memory Tray (Seren, 1994) was shortlisted for a Forward Prize and she is also the recipient of an Arts Council of England Writer’s Award. Her work has been widely anthologised in Britain and Europe and in 2004 she was selected by Mslexia magazine as one of the top ten new women poets in Britain. Her solo work, Quiver (Seren, 2004), is a book–length poem - a murder-mystery - which explores the nature of creativity.
