EVANS, GEORGE BRINLEY

George Brinley EvansGeorge Brinley Evans was born in Dyffryn Cellwen in 1925. Aged 14, he began working in the Banwen Colliery in 1939 and then served in Burma with the 12th Army during the second world war. He returned to the mines after the war and finally retired in 1977. During his working life he became an established painter and despite losing an eye in an accident, also began to develop as a sculptor and writer. His paintings and sculptures have been widely exhibited. He published his first book, Boys of Gold (Parthian, 2000), at the age of 77.
