Children’s writer and novelist. Born in Birmingham but both parents were from the Gower. Took a degree in Zoology from Kings College, Cambridge and worked for BBC Natural History Unit. First children’s book published by Walker Books in 1997 and first adult novel by Hodder and Stoughton in 1999. Children’s non–fiction widely and well reviewed. Works with children at festivals and in schools all over the country running workshops using nature to spark creative writing. Associate lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. Her title Big Blue Whale (Walker Books 1997) won the Junior Library Guild Gold Medal and theParenting Magazine Certificate of Excellence. Surprising Sharks (Walker Books, 2002) was a Junior Library Guild Choice.
