Lloyd JonesPoet, novelist and journalist. Former lecturer in print media at NEWI Wrexham and Llandrillo College. Fluent Welsh speaker. After nearly dying of alcoholism and living rough, Lloyd gave up drinking and walked completely around Wales, a journey of over a thousand miles, making him the first Welshman to walk entirely around his homeland.  This inspired him to write his first novel, Mr Vogel (Seren, 2004). For Mr Cassini (Seren, 2006) he changed tack, crossing Wales seven times in seven directions. The result is a funny yet tragic exploration of lost childhood and the distortions of the past.

Mr Vogel (Seren, 2004) won the McKitterick Prize in 2005 and was shortlisted for the Bollinger Everyman Woodhouse Prize for Comic Fiction. Mr Cassini (Seren, 2006), won the Wales Book of the Year 2007.

Reviews:
With regards Mr Vogel (Seren, 2004):

"…Surely one of the most remarkable books ever written on the subject of Wales – or rather around the subject, because it is an astonishing mixture of fantasy, philosophy and travel, expressed through the medium of that endlessly figurative country…"
Jan Morris

"…The tour guide Wales has been waiting for: warped history, throwaway erudition, sombre farce. Stop what you’re doing and listen to this mongrel monologue…"
Iain Sinclair

With regards Mr Cassini (Seren, 2006):

"...Lloyd Jones’s use of language and emotion is second to none in contemporary Welsh literature…"
Amanda Hopkinson, Independent

"...Few people write with this much verve any more. An extraordinary work of the imagination..."
Tom Boncza-Tomaszewski, Independent
