Awarded an Arts Council of Wales bursary in 2000 and has been a freelance and writing tutor since then. Chris has extensive experience in running ongoing workshops in mental health drop–ins, for women’s groups and community groups, also for Powys Young Writers Squads and in primary and secondary schools. Before that, she has 21 years’ experience in further education - mainly teaching English and drama.
Chris studied at Bretton Hall College: BEd(hons), MA in Educational Theatre. She has done poetry readings in Wales, London, the north-east and at Ledbury Poetry Festival. Chris is a Member of Ty Newydd’s board since 2001. She has published in the poetry magazines: New Welsh Review, Planet, Poetry Wales, Roundyhouse, The Yellow Crane and on BBC Radio 4, iota, Smiths Knoll, Smoke, Tears in the Fence.
She is especially interested in working with people who do not necessarily see themselves as writers. Lots of devices for sparking ideas for poetry, autobiography, short fiction/ dialogue. Interested too in the physicality of writing - also teaches some Chinese martial arts. Runner-up in the 2002 Belmont Children’s Poetry Prize.
