DAVIES, RUSSELL T

Russell T. DaviesTV scriptwriter. Born in Swansea. Made the transition from producing for the BBC to scriptwriting with a highly–regarded six–part drama serial for children, Dark Season. Subsequent work included a BAFTA Children’s Award-winning episode of Granada’s Children’s Hospital. The groundbreaking Queer as Folk, which attracted controversy and praise in equal measure when it was screened on Channel 4 in 1999, was followed by a sequel in 2000. Further television work included the mini-series Bob and Rose, the fantasy drama The Second Coming and a series about the life of Casanova. Current work includes Mine All Mine, set in Mumbles and MGM (More Gay Men) which will be a "big gay series", revisiting some of the themes of Queer as Folk, but "a bit more 40-year-old”. He is also chief writer and executive producer of BBC Wales’ revival of Doctor Who and the spin-off Torchwood.
