CJ Emerson has been writing since her teens, but she opted for a career with a steadier income. An exceptionally varied employment history has seen her working for BT, selling Encyclopaedia Britannica and being headhunted for defence projects for the UK government. She then started her own IT consultancy. The technical expertise of the undercover detective sergeant, Parvati, derives largely from this background in computing, whereas C.J’s partner is a social worker which inspired the idea for the heroine in the book.

C.J. left London and business behind in 2001 and took a MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and an MA in Creative Writing under Mo Hayder. She now teaches Creative Writing through her website "The Writing Forge". Currently working on her third novel (her publishers have an option on her second), CJ lives in the Wye Valley with her partner, two border collies and four cats. She is a Member of Academi.
