HOOSON, RHIANNON

Rhiannon HoosonRhiannon lived in rural mid–Wales until moving to north–west England six years ago. She completed a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing  at Lancaster University and her poetry had been published in various journals, including Poetry Wales, Obsessed with Pipework and Mslexia. Her first collection, In the North Field has recently been shortlisted for the Eric Gregory award. After concentrating on poetry for most of her creative career, she is currently working towards the publication of her first novel The Midnight Tyrant. She also has a PhD to contend with, which explores the notion of ‘simultaneous texts’ and the landscape of the page. Her Welsh heritage is paramount to her work, much of which seeks to contextualise the experience of growing up in a modern rural community with a rich heritage of mythology and folklore. She is interested in the notion of female aggression and the figure of the warrior within epic and heroic poetry, and the aesthetic of violence and its appropriation by the male voice. She lives near Windermere in a rambling old house.
