THOMAS, CERI

Ceri ThomasCeri Thomas is an artist and art historian with a longstanding interest in the visual culture of Wales. He has exhibited in Wales since the mid 1980s and written on Welsh artists since 1990. In 1999 he won the Gwyn Alf Williams Memorial Award to further his work on art in modern and this has now culminated in his text Art on the Edge - Art and Artists in Wales Since 1945.

His pictures have been shown in the National Assembly for Wales, the National Eisteddfod of Wales, the National Library of Wales and the National Museum Cardiff. He was elected to the Welsh Group in 2002 and the RoyalCambrian Academy in 2005.

In 2000, he was a researcher/consultant for the BBC Wales television series Painting the Dragon. He has contributed to Kirstine Brander Dunthorne (editor), Drawn from Wales: a School of Art in Swansea 1853-2003 (Welsh Academic Press, 2003) and Christine Kinsey & Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan (editors), Imaging the Imagination: an exploration of the relationship between the image and the word in the art of Wales (Gomer Press, 2005).

Having researched and curated the exhibition Ernest Zobole: a retrospective which toured Wales in 2004-05, his monograph Ernest Zobole: a life in art is due to be published by Seren in 2006. Currently, he is a research fellow and curator of art at the University of Glamorgan, Pontypridd, and he lives in Swansea.
