JOHN, STEPHEN

Born in 1960, Stephen spent the first thirty years of his life claiming Income Support and Housing Benefit in and around the Neath and Swansea area. 1990 saw him become an economic migrant, relocating himself to Northampton. In 1993, Stephen became a carer and continues to nurse his ailing partner of 22 years to the present day, alongside his writing. Having acquired a lifetime of experience pitting his wits against the UK’s varied unemployment and NHS departments, Rhian’s Year is Stephen’s first published work in which the author attempts to expose the failings of the British benefit system, health service, and until now, highlight the ignored plight of the millions of Welsh minimum wage earners.
