A writer of children’s novels, Val was a teacher for 20 years and has taught every age group from five to eighteen. Though now a full-time author, there is nothing she loves more than visiting schools to enthuse children and students. Her humour, honesty and boundless enthusiasm inspire all those who work with her and leave students highly motivated. Val does not regard her school visits as entertainment, although they are always highly entertaining.
Having lived and worked around London for some years, Val found tranquillity and beauty in the Radnorshire hills where she now lives in the middle of a farm. As well as writing, she is an accomplished craftswoman with interests that include creating ceramic houses and privies, stained glass, spinning and weaving and needlecrafts.
Val’s first novel, The Time Wreccas, was published by Puffin in 2005 and was nominated for the inaugural Ottakar’s Children’s Book Prize. The second book in The Greenwich Chronicles, The Time Apprentice, was published in 2006 and has received acclaim in The Independent and The Times Educational Supplement.
