Barbara ErskineBarbara (Hope-Lewis) divides her time between the Welsh borders and the north Essex coast. Barbara was born in 1944 in England. At university, Barbara started to write her first novel but was unable to finish it due to the pressures of her course. She graduated in Scottish history from Edinburgh University and then worked as a research editor for various art and history publishers. Barbara started writing short stories for Mills & Boon during this time, and after her eldest son was born, she and her family moved to the Black Mountains. It is here that she completed her first novel The Lady of Hay (Michael Joseph, 1986). Many more followed including the completion of the novel she started at university, entitled Kingdom of Shadows (Michael Joseph, 1988).

Barbara’s works combine an interest in historical pasts with the paranormal and romance. She inherits an absorbing interest in her family’s history from her great aunt and several of her novels are inspired by her own bloodline. Barbara is a Member of Academi.
