Clare PotterClare Potter was brought up in Blackwood, South Wales, and became a published poet after moving to the USA. She gained an MA in Afro–Caribbean literature in Mississippi. She then moved to New Orleans, where she was a consultant for the New Orleans Writing Project. On returning to Wales after seven years, Clare won the 2004 John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry. Clare is currently working towards a PhD in Creative Writing and tutors at the Cardiff Centre for Lifelong Learning. She has completed a Touchpaper training project, which aims to teach writers to use creative writing to work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Clare was awarded the Cardiff 2005 Future Focus bursary and spent it returning to New Orleans to write poems for Spilling Histories (Cinnamon, 2006), which is her first collection and inspired by the aftermath of the New Orleans disaster. Spilling Histories (Cinnamon, 2006) was launched in Cardiff in November, 2006. Clare is a Member of Academi.
