WALKER, PETER

Peter WalkerBorn in Bristol to Welsh parents, Peter moved with them to South Africa aged two. Peter’s autobiographical book It’s Not Just Cricket (Fairfield Books, 2006) details his very chequered life, which includes running away to sea aged 16, being nearly murdered in the Suez Canal and spending 18 years as a professional cricket with Glamorgan County Cricket Club, during which time he played for England. Peter then worked with BBC Wales as a presenter, producer and reporter on everything from Aberfan to the first sighting of the new season’s Pembrokeshire potatoes, setting up Merlin Television which was to become the biggest independent television production company in Wales and eventually, becoming Director of the Cricket Board of Wales.

Peter has been resident in South Wales for 52 years, the majority in Cardiff.
