ADJUDICATOR = HILARY LLEWELLYN-WILLIAMS
Hilary Llewellyn-Williams is the author of four collections of poetry from Seren: her first collection The Tree Calendar, won an Arts Council of Wales award. Her most recent collection is Greenland (2003). Her poems have appeared in a wide variety of anthologies, the most recent being Poetry 1900-2000 ed. Meic Stephens (Parthian 2007) and in magazines and journals in Britain and abroad. She teaches creative writing for the Open University and also tutors freelance on poetry courses for the Arvon Foundation, Ty Newydd etc. Having lived in rural Carmarthenshire for many years, she now lives near the border of Monmouthshire in Pontypool.
ENTRY RULES:
- The competition is open to anyone over the age of 15 years.
- Entries must be typed or printed in English and be your own original work.
- Entries must not be entered into, nor have been a prize winner in, any other competition.
- Each poem should be on a separate sheet of A4 paper bearing only the poem and title. The author’s name, address or any other identification must not be shown on the poem/s.
- Entries may be submitted without an entry form, in which case the name and address of the author and the titles of the poems should be included on a separate sheet of A4 paper.
- Entry forms (optional) can be downloaded from the Wrekin Writers Website or by sending a S.A.E. to General Secretary, Lilian Parker, 54 Coronation Drive, Donnington, Telford, Shropshire, TF2 8HY. (Please note that this competition is NOT operated by Wrekin Writers but is run by the Salopian Poetry Society. Any queries should be directed to them at the contact details below).
- Poems must not exceed 36 lines.
- When submitting your entry please ensure that sufficient postage is paid, especially if using a large size envelope - if in doubt please check with the Post Office.
- Entry fee for non-members of the Society is £3 per poem, or 4 poems for £10.
- For society members the fee is £2 per poem.
- Cheques or Postal Orders must be made payable to ’The Salopian Poetry Society’. NO COINS OR STAMPS PLEASE.
- No manuscripts can be returned - please keep a copy of poems entered.
- First Prize = £200. Second Prize = £100. Third Prize = £50.
- Three consolation prizes of £30 will be awarded and all six winners will receive a year’s free Society membership (including four quarterly Magazines), to commence from 1st December 2008 for non-members or from the date of expiry of current membership for members.
- A free list of winners will be sent if a S.A.E is enclosed for this purpose with the entry form. The six winning poems will be published in the December 2008 edition of the Society’s quarterly magazine, Salopoet, copies of which can be ordered on the entry form or at £2.50 each inc p&p from the Editor at the address below.
- The closing date is 31st August 2008.
- Whilst the copyright of all the poems remains that of the author, the Society shall have the right to publish the six winning poems in the December 2008 issue of Salopoet.
- Entries unaccompanied by an entry form will be accepted, provided the rules are adhered to.
