Postgraduate Degrees in Creative Writing

Two new courses are offered by the Department of English.

MA in Creative Writing

The programme offers a practical training in the craft of writing, with a strong emphasis on the production of prose fiction and poetry. Our modular programme allows for an element of choice among a variety of options (including options on the main English MA syllabus) and it is possible to take the degree in part–time mode (two years) as well as full-time (one year).

PhD in Creative Writing

This is a research-based course, ’research’ in this context implying everything that is required to bring to completion a novel or substantial collection of poems, as well as to provide a critical/analytical account of the work produced. Students will be expected, under the guidance of their supervisors, to demonstrate their skills in handling a sustained creative project, while at the same time establishing a critical framework for their writing. Their research will be closely supervised throughout by one or more core members of the Departments’s Creative Writing Staff.
