SCHEMES FOR PLAYWRIGHTS

Script Reading Service

The script reading service costs £17.50 for a one act script, £25.00 for a full length. For this you get a critique from an expert with experience in the fields of writing and directing for the theatre. The written critique you receive is not edited in any way and is anonymous. The service takes up to two months from receipt of your play to the issue of your critical review.

If you get a "rave" critique or a strong recommendation from the reviewer, your script will be automatically passed to DAW Publications for consideration. Please note: at no time does DAW accept any obligation to publish.  

The Publication Service

DAW started publishing in 1991 and now represents 70 titles including work by Pam Gems, Arnold Wesker and Frank Vickery but mainly less exposed writers. To date DAW Publications have been performed throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland and as far away as Australia, the Sultanate of Oman, Holland, USA, Cyprus and Switzerland.

Scripts selected from the reading service or from the playwriting competition are considered for publication. The criterion for publication is always: "will this play get performed?"

We operate a number of approved standard contracts. The writer receives a percentage of the cover price on sales and a percentage of the performance fees, which we collect on their behalf.

Playwriting Competition

 An annual competition is held drawing in between 200 and 300 scripts. The competition, sponsored by Technocover, is for one-act plays of between 20 and 50 minutes playing time.

The Library

Doing research? Running a Writers Group and looking for sets for a reading? We now hold the world’s largest specialist drama lending library - if it has been published in the UK since 1990 we should have a copy. We hold scripts published by al UK publishers and most international houses publishing in English. Playscripts are available for hire from DAW at ridiculously cheap rates from 32p to 47p per week.
