The Judges

The Judges for the 2008 Rhys Davies Short Story Competition were:

Tessa Hadley has written two novels, Accidents in the Home (Jonathan Cape, 2001) and Everything Will Be All Right (Jonathan Cape, 2004), and a collection of stories, Sunstroke and Other Stories (Jonathan Cape, 2007). She has had short stories published in Granta, The New Yorker, and The Guardian. She lives in Cardiff.

Meic Stephens has worked as a journalist, Literature Director of the Welsh Arts Council, visiting Professor at Brigham University, Utah and arts consultant. He has lectured at the University of Glamorgan and was Professor of Welsh Writing in English 2000–2003 (now Emeritus). Founder of Poetry Wales and editor until 1973. Obituarist for The Independent.

Filter Judge:

Catherine Fisher is a poet and children’s novelist. She has worked in teaching and archaeology, and is now a full-time writer. She won the Welsh Arts Council Young Writer’s Prize and the Cardiff International Poetry Competition in 1989 and a Tir na n-Og Prize in 1995. She has been short-listed for the Smarties Prize, WH Smith Prize and the Whitbread Prize.
