The Writers
Phil Carradice and Briony Goffin were apointed in 2006 as Lead Writer (Phil) and Support Writer (Briony) on the Project.
Phil Carradice
Phil is a poet, short–story writer, novelist, historian and editor. Born at Pembroke Dock, he was educated at Cardiff College of Education and University College, Cardiff. Phil has been a teacher, social worker and head teacher of Headlands Special School in Penarth. His work has been featured in a wide range of magazines including Poetry Wales, The Times Educational Supplement, Anglo-Welsh Review and the New Welsh Review. He is the editor of The South Wales Golfer, the leading golf magazine in Wales. A regular broadcaster on TV/Radio, he has completed numerous residencies (for schools, writers’ groups and Arts Associations). Phil is presenter of The Past Master, the Radio Wales history programme - now in its sixth season and due to go into its seventh in January 2008. He leads regular creative writing classes for Cardiff University and is a Board Member of Academi.
Briony Goffin
Briony gained a BSc in Psychology and an MA in the Practice and Teaching of Creative Writing at Cardiff University. She now runs her own independent writing courses in Somerset and facilitates creative writing groups for adults with mental health problems at Whitchurch Hospital and for the Disability Advisory Resource Team in Cardiff. She was Writer in Residence at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton in September 2006 and will be Writer in Residence at the 10 Parishes Festival in Somerset in August 2007. Briony has recently contributed a chapter to Writing Works: A Resource Book for Therapeutic Writing Workshops and Activities (Jessica Kingsley Publishers, 2006). Her current writing projects include ‘an interdisciplinary relationship between the writer, artist and performer in the quest for a greater clarity of image’, ‘Places, spaces and buildings: the written reconstruction of lived and imaginative worlds’ and ‘The writer, the radio and the intimacy of sharing’.
