John Briggs is an American-born photographer who has been documenting various aspects of the city of Cardiff’s past. He began with the docklands and industrial communities in the 1970’s, this resulted in the publication of Before the Deluge (Seren 2002). A sequel, highlighting the great changes in the docklands and the city centre from the 1980’s onwards, was published in 2005 entitled Taken In Time. Other projects have included the course of the Glamorganshire Canal in Cardiff, the railways in Cardiff Docks and, currently, Whitchurch Hospital in conjunction with The Whitchurch Project. John is also preparing a photo-documentary on Newport, where he has lived since 1976.
